Impact for Innovation

What can you say when you have the opportunity to work with not only one of televisions beloved on-air mentors but also someone with a most excellent sense of fashion: Tim Gunn… Recently, Emerson College announced that it will be hosting a class with Tim and Sharon Topper, Marketing Communication affiliated faculty, called Impact for Innovation. You can learn more about that here or here or even perhaps here.

But you’re HERE for the fun stuff; the photos, the action, the glam…well, you get it.

Take a peek into the behind the scenes as well as a few SUPURB, yet professionally fashionable portraits.

This shoot was one of those ‘video crew trumps all’ sort of sets. Which, with this most awesome crew at Emerson Productions, I gladly road shotgun (easier for coffee consumption and commentary.)

There was a great amount of creative direction that went into this set. The location was in new space at Emerson and was built out to have a coffee shop vibe. This large open space had plenty of natural light coming from the wall of windows and included the bustling activity of students in a piece of the background. Everything in the set was brought in from off location, including my favorite piece, THAT RUG. Takes me back to my grandparents RV.

Take a look at this very creative and artistically inclined set diagram. There were three cameras, two for the subjects and one for overall. The rim lights were diffused by a gridded softbox and were used to add to the natural light from the bay windows. What I loved was the key light. These were two lights that directed themselves toward a reflector that in turn bounced through a diffuser.

Alas, coffee is out, back seat comments are finished, and it’s time to get back to paying attention to the pup. Hope you enjoyed our shoot
